I spent three days from the opening until the closing time (6.15-21.00) on the board of the Föri, a small ferry boat in Turku, Finland. When on board I set a rule for myself to not to leave the boat, with the only exception of using a service toilet. By that I wanted to establish a closer relationship with Föri, to articulate its significance for the local community as well as to get in touch with that community. As it was quite cold in October (with a temperature dropping below zero during mornings) and the ferry was not anyhow heated or otherwise protected I had to wear an extensive amount of clothing. Because of that the issue of homeless people was unintentionally brought into the performance as well.
During the three days on the board I experienced many visual as well as verbal encounters, I was reading historical books on Turku and other materials, making notes, asking people to leave a message in my notebook, sleeping, eating, drinking, using a mobile phone, stretching, changing clothes and similar.
