Walking on the highway
3/2021 Istanbul, TR

We perform, we live.
On the way back from the visit to the forest, our group decided to collect some firewood as there is no heating system in Ali’s home other than the stove. The walk on the empty unfinished highway added a special surreal taste to the experience.
The highway is part of an extensive network of roads that are being newly built north of Istanbul center and which all converge at the so-called Third Bosphorus Bridge (Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge). The construction of the bridge and interconnected highway network has been criticized for its negative ecological impacts. Our “performance” could be read as a critical commentary and might be easily presented as part of an art festival. Yet the only thing Derya, Jakub, Ali and I wanted that day was to get ourselves warm.
